History

1991 : Pierre Robert, Hesiode’s founder, was then export manager of a cooperative winery in the Loire Valley, when he decided to form the Hesiode Group. With the help of the largest French wine companies, he wanted to meet the strong demand of the Japanese market for French wine references.

Objective : to present a global and diversified offer of French wines and spirits, rare wines, old vintages, good value for money wines and wines from environmentally friendly agriculture.

The name “Hesiode” then becomes obvious, because, just like the poet, the women and men who make up the Hesiode team are also fervent ambassadors of wine growing.

 

  • 1991-1995

    Pierre Robert left to conquer the Asian continent with the aim to promote French wines. Hesiode is then present not only in Japan, but also in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand.

  • 1995

    Establishment of a liaison office in Tokyo/Japan with a local partner, to better meet the demand of importers and distributors.

  • 2005

    Hiromi, a Japanese wine specialist living in Tokyo, joined the Hesiode team at the liaison office. Hiromi becomes a privileged contact for Japanese importers and distributors.

  • 2009

    Arrival of Amandine, or the 'Hesiode Cloud', Export Manager and expert of the Japanese market. Hesiode will soon have no secret for Amandine!

     

  • 2010

    Creation of Maison Thibault & Fils - Bordeaux - France to ensure the sourcing of great classified wines, old vintages and primeur wines.

  • 2019

    Arrival of Floriane, Sales administrator, to strengthen the team.

  • 2020

    Nearly 30 years after its creation, the company excels in the export of French wines and spirits, especially in Japan, a historical market for Hesiode.
    Michaël Sourice takes over the reins of the company with new horizons for Hesiode: conquering new export markets, developing Hesiode's own brands and deploying the customer offer.

  • 2022

    While Hesiode responds to other Asian countries such as South Korea and Malaysia, it expands with the arrival of Sophie, a Canadian from Québec, to develop Hesiode's reach internationally.

  • 2023

    Hesiode's "makeover" with a new communication strategy through its new website.

Why HESIODE ?

Hesiodos (Hesiode) was a Greek poet and historian (~750-680 BC), who lived as both a shepherd and a farmer. Hesiode is considered the first author to describe viticulture in prose form. Today, we consider him to be the originator of the first written records of viticulture. In his epic “Works and Days”, he tells of the hard life of the farmers and advises the winegrowers on the consumption of wine.
